Meet Joe Kool

From the moment he stepped foot on Karon Beach, Joe Kool knew he had found his nirvana - an endless summer. He surfed, partied and made loads of friends. Joe was the hip new guy in town. Life was good, there was no comparison.

Two years on, tragedy struck. Joe’s stingy dad stopped sending money. He had no choice: go home to Hawaii, finish college and get a lousy job. Joe vowed he’d return someday.

“Phuket just wasn’t the same anymore without Joe Kool,” said the Karon surfer boys. “He was the coolest, we missed that crazy guy”.

The Great Escape

Joe Kool tried climbing the corporate ladder but - seriously, he didn’t fit in. The suit was stiff, his shoes gave him blisters. There was no sunshine in his life. Joe wandered the globe with one adventure after the next – but there was something missing. Always talking about the Great Phuket Dream, Joe Kool’s buddies shared the adventure.

His big day finally came. Joe hit the surf, played in the sand, lay in the sun, partied like mad and took bad snapshots of the cool beach culture. Word got around: Joe Kools’ beach parties were the happening thing. Dudes rocked in from far and wide.

“It’s just like the good old days, but even better,” say the locals, “Joe Kool is back – hooray!”

A Never Ending Party

Joe decided to stay on Phuket forever. Joe Kool just never grew up and kids related to him big time. His fun ideas of radical food, beach games and never-ending rock and roll really caught on. Kids hung out at his cool American beach parties and, to his astonishment, the parents came too. They loved his music and wild food.

“You can’t beat Joe’s Leaning Tower of Grilled Cheese,” said Big Red the yacht salesman, between mouthfuls.

Joe unveiled a secret plan.  He would open a diner where every single detail was American - from the food, the drinks, the music and the decor. 

Living Joe’s Dream

It was a hit from day one. Joe Kool’s diner was everything he hoped for and more. He hired all his friends – the greatest Thai chef to make his kooky menu, a team of seashell sellers to serve food and drinks, and even a beach buddy band.

Behind his rose-tinted shades, life was perfect for Joe. But his joint was chaos and the kids ran the show. Trying to please everyone, he just couldn’t see that his friends had to go. Joe’s diner soon became known as the world’s worst restaurant - home of lousy food and overpriced drinks. Regardless of this, the place was always jumping.

“I love the food fights and the magic castle,” said a prominent property developer – who asked not to be named.
